Yang and Yin

Description

The Yang and yin as opposites represented by a divided circle has played a significant part in India and Europe, but the original Chinese character is not dualistic in nature. There, the important part was actually the line, which represents oneness, but brings duality into the world, at the same time above and below, left and right.

Literally, they originally mean "the overcast" and "banners waving in the sun", the concept carried over into further works like the Book of Changes where they came to represent the two primal states of being; "the firm" and "the yielding".

Wherever they are referred to, their interplay results in the world of being.
